At this point in time I don't see why PvE skills are needed anymore. With the PvE/P split there is no longer a point to have PvE only skills in the game it would be best if they removed them.

Also seeing how they added these skills I hope nothing like PvE olny skill are in GW2.

Yet it's just all wishful thinking for this upcoming update.

I'll just quote the guy since it's much easier to quote him then EVERYONE that replied.
The question of the game's difficulty is something A.Net needs to ask themselves.
Now the players CAN comment on how hard the game should be - but stating that something is bad because it makes the game to easy - is invalid because it's not our place to decide how hard the game should to be.

We're dealing with an online-game.
And a developer.
Ursan isn't used in PvP.
And that's pretty much ALL that GW has to do with online gaming.
PvE is on offline game with an in-built IRC program.

Which begs the question: Why would they rather listen and cater to people who don't care/understand about what makes their game the way it is, and not to people who want to improve it?

And no, I don't think we could deal with it because I don't know of a single game developer that ever said "hey, let's make our game worse!"

First, that undermines the point of an online game in the first place. Secondly, making your game worse isn't a "normal way of functioning", improving it is.
Do you now see why I have doubt that their actions really were mistakes but rather actions that they fully understood?
I seriously doubt they went out to make the game worse.
I feel they listened to the majority - and that majority IS having fun now and enjoying the game and they DON'T consider that the game is worse - but their fun came at the expense of balance. And PvE balance NEVER was an important issue for A.Net.
And let's be honest - neither was for PvE players since pretty much the ONLY time we bitched about something was when that something was to weak.

The promised update? Maybe.

Something is telling me that the steep decline of loyal veteran players who still play game is finally raising some flags. Literally none of my 50 or so friends I made playing PvE is still logging in on a regular basis. Not a single one.

Sure, ArenaNet is still getting sales from people picking up the game from bargain bins. Unfortunately, these are customers that spend a month playing, find out that they've joined a dying community and then move on.

It's time to start pleasing the hardcore "pre-order crowd" again, especially since a formidable challenger has appeared on the horizon.

True enough. You provide accessibility (easier difficulties, etc.) but you don't dumb down everything in its entirety.

But granted, when it comes to how difficult an area should be - or is - it's the players who are usually looked to since they know the game better than anyone.

Also, if it wasn't our place to "decide how hard the game should be", HM wouldn't exist.

Online or offline, when you dumb down your game you dumb down your game. A skill that gives you everlasting invulnerability would be no less stupid in Balduir's Gate. Because "it doesn't bother others" is a poor reason.

How can they listen to the majority when the silent and casual majority doesn't say anything? The most you can get from the majority is numbers.

If this was tailored to the "majority" if players, it would be available in all the campaigns. If this was meant to be used by the "casual" populous, it most certainly wouldn't require a title. If ANet wanted to dumb down their game for the "newbies", then they did a pretty bad job of it ('poor job of ruining your game'...hah). So no, it's not for the 'casual newbie', it's tailored for a small group of players that don't want to play Guild Wars yet want all of its glories.

But most importantly, if they fully understood what they were doing, why are they considering a nerf for it?

Because there wasn't a single instance where they balanced or changed anything in PvE, correct?

If they didn't care about PvE players, or PvE for that matter, then the campaigns would contain nothing but PvP content.

Interesting note on SF from Linsey Murdock's talk page:

Quote:
We want to actually dial back the damage penalty so that the non-perma SF users like boss killers and raptor farmers will be able to actually kill things again. We didn't say anything about making it so that you can't keep up SF permanently, nor do we have plans to do that. I prefer to address their ability to farm Chaos Plains directly rather than continue to hit the skill and hurt all the other farming builds. However, keep in mind, we don't want to completely eliminate the SF sin's ability to farm in UW. We just want to slow it down enough so that it's equal to the other farming builds/areas like the Smite fields.
My 2c on the PvE issue... why has GW become so much of a micromanagement and multitasking game? I paid for an RPG to be played online with friends not an RTS to be played online with friends. The moment where I have to tell my heroes to go 10 paces to the right while telling Sosuke to cast churning earth while I'm casting life and doing 2 other things, the game stops becoming fun and starts to become a headache.

There's your problem, if you don't want to manage AI, play with human groups. Secondly, I like that Guild Wars requires some degree of strategy. Hack and slash games requiring no intelligent input from the player get really boring really quickly.

To this day I still don't understand how anyone can see Ursan as anything but a joke. If you want to introduce a skill which says "lets make everything easy mode" and eliminates all class difference so that poorer players access harder areas of the game thats fine. But perhaps such a skill should be made so that it makes players in your team harder to kill, but reduces the killing speed at which you can make it through areas of the game. Thus such a skill would reduce the risk, and increase accessibility but decrease the reward and provide an incentive to run other setups that might have faster killing potential, but are riskier. I'm well aware that the team setups will always move towards some single optimal setup, but at least this might maintain more diversity and make use of class skills rather than reducing pve to one single skill.

Anyway...sorry thats a little far a field. But if there are nerfs to this I hope it looks something like that and I hope in general that people are carefully critical and willing to give things a try on both the pve and pvp sides of the coin rather than resorting to mindless ranting. I guess thats unlikely.

And pigs can fly...

Look, I'd love to play with all human groups and sometimes I do get that opportunity but we all know it's heroes or nothing 90 percent of the time.

As I'm alt-tabbed from D2 atm, I'd agree to an extent :P.

I haven't hero+henched in probably the last 6 months. I don't have a particularly active alliance, but I do have friends around to play with. Simply put, AI isn't fun to play with, so I don't. If you genuinely hate playing with heroes, be the guy in your alliance who always tags along with groups and is forming his own.

Of course, I also hate playing ursanway (it's boring as hell), so I end up screwing around in TA and AB a pretty huge amount of the time.

lols. Right now I'm in The Catacombs, Level 4 with my Barbarian, bashing things up.

Anyways, it's not that I hate heroes, I just don't get why I have to tell them to get out of the meteor shower when Sosuke casts it and the monster AI actually moves over.

If getting to high-end areas was harder, so only A BIT skilled people got there, then maybe we wouldn't have to resort to h/h.

Ursan is a borring topic.

Lets talk about the other changes. What do you think they are going to do with PvE titles? And how do you think armors in HoM Account Based are going to work? Suppose you can enter with your ranger and see him in your mesmer's clothes?
